This year has been momentous for Marie Nursery School, marking significant progress in our commitment to offer every child a safe, accessible, and enriching environment for early education. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters and donors, we now have a dedicated school bus! This milestone not only reflects our growth but also demonstrates our ongoing dedication to serving the wider community.
Since our benefit concert last December 2023, we have been steadily working toward raising funds for this essential addition. With the combined help of our supportive donors, we finally reached our fundraising goal this past summer. Lameck Elias Komba our School Manager travelled to Dar Es Salaam to finalize the purchase, handle insurance formalities, and bring the bus home to our school.
Now, students, teachers, and parents are “indescribably happy,” as Tekla, one of our dedicated team members, shared. The bus opens up new possibilities for children from more remote areas, ensuring that they too have access to quality early education. This reliable transportation will help pupils arrive safely, on time, and ready for a day full of learning and fun.

As our school grows, we are already thinking about the next phase of our development. With our new bus, we anticipate welcoming even more students, which has highlighted the need for additional space and facilities.
Currently, students eat lunch outdoors, exposed to dust, heat, and the challenges of rainy weather. To provide a more comfortable environment, we’re excited to kick off the construction of a much-needed dining hall. Not only will this space serve as a sheltered area for meals, but it will also double as a venue for community events and meetings—a true community hub.
We recognize the escalating construction costs in Tanzania, and to make the most of every donation, we are taking a resourceful, community-driven approach to our projects. Working with locals and prioritizing essential elements first, we’re focused on completing the roof before the November rains. This will allow us to proceed with the remaining work gradually, ensuring that we stay on budget while continuing to provide our students with a nurturing environment.

For a few weeks now, there’s been a little village shop right beside the school that’s already buzzing with activity! The shop is stocked it with essentials—basic food items, refreshing soft drinks, and fresh produce straight from the garden! The shop is always evolving to meet the needs of the residents, and we’re thrilled to see the joy of everyone being able to shop close to home. This is more than just a convenience; it’s a step towards a stronger, more self-sustained community!
The journey doesn’t end here! With every milestone we reach, Marie Nursery School becomes better equipped to serve our growing community. From safe transportation to more comfortable, dedicated spaces for learning and community building, each step forward brings us closer to our vision.
